The business meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Chair, Lee Swoboda. There was not a quorum of the board present when the meeting started, so no business was conducted until a quorum was finally achieved at about 7:20 PM.
The Pledge of Allegiance was said. Afterward, everyone introduced themselves.
Secretary's Report – Margie Benson
• Approval of July 23 meeting minutes.
Jack Kimball moved to approve the minutes, as distributed via email. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Treasurer's Report - Jack Kimball
• All bills are paid and there is $1,626.49 in the bank account.
Public Information Officer (PIO) Report – Ken VanBuskirk
• Attended the Coalition for Open Government meeting, sponsored by the Mason County League of Women Voters.
• Attended a county commissioner meeting last week and testified on the Romance Hill annexation to the Belfair Water District.
• Asked the NMCV to offer help to the Belfair UGA committee.
• SR 3 construction through Belfair is supposed to start in June, 2013.
Opportunity for political candidates to introduce themselves
The audience heard from Terri Jeffries, District 2 commissioner candidate, Denny Hamilton, District 1 commissioner candidate, Tim Sheldon, District 3 commissioner candidate, Dan Griffey, 35th District, Position 1 candidate, and Randy Neatherlin, District 1 commissioner candidate.
Status of purchasing a portable PA system for NMCV. Still looking.
Update on Candidates’ Debates, Sep. 27 and Oct. 11.
Mary Swoboda reviewed the plans for the two debates. The Commissioner candidates will debate on September 27, and the 35th Legislative District and 6th Congressional District candidates will debate on October 11. The events will be at Hawkins Middle School. Doors open at 6:30 PM, with the first debate starting at 6:45 PM. Joel Myer will be the moderator. MasonWebTV.com will broadcast the event, with live-streaming to their web site. In addition, further rebroadcasts will appear on MasonWebTV.com and Hood Canal Communications.

Washington State Department of Transportation will be starting appraisal work for the widening project very soon.
