The business meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Linnie Griffin, with a quorum of the Board present.

The Pledge of Allegiance was said. Afterward, everyone introduced themselves.

Secretary's Report – Lee Swoboda

Greg moved to approve the minutes of the November 28, 2011 meeting, as distributed via email. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Treasurer's Report - Jack Kimball

• All bills are paid and there is $1,774.95 in the bank account.

Judy moved to approve the Treasurer's report. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Public Information Officer (PIO) Report

Barbara McDowell reported that the Humane Society of Mason County is asking for consideration from the Planning Commission to approve their shelter plan.

INFORMATIONAL MEETING – GUEST SPEAKER Patti Kleist, Executive Director of Faith in Action

• Faith in Action has been serving people in North Mason since 2001.

• Faith in Action is raising support to build a 15,500 square foot facility on the Old Belfair Highway that would house a senior center, thrift store and offices for Faith in Action plus other senior-related organizations. There would also be a large commercial kitchen, which could be rented out to micro businesses. The facility would be able to seat 200+ people. The office spaces upstairs would have elevator access.

• Planned services would include senior nutrition, education, health and exercise, recreation and socialization.

• Thrift store sales, room rentals, classes and memberships would help pay yearly utility and maintenance costs.

• Plan to begin construction in May of 2012 and open the doors to the public in the Fall or Winter of 2012.

All current members renewing their $10 membership for 2012 can sponsor one new member between now and the annual meeting in May. All memberships are valid through calendar year 2012. Mail your renewals to NMCV, PO Box 1056, Belfair WA 98528.

There was a discussion of the impact of NMCV on the community. Greg wondered about the viability of the organization and felt there was poor representation of the people in North Mason. A couple members urged NMCV not to forget its mission and don’t give up. Linnie asked the membership to send ideas to Greg Waggett and asked him to coordinate ideas for retaining the vitality of NMCV.


The discussion spilled over into new business. Valerie thinks the county commission and water commission need five members instead of three. She is interested in the NMCV sponsoring a forum on the pros and cons of 3- and 5-member commissions.

Valerie made a motion that the NMCV have a forum on the pros and cons of three- vs. five-member commissioners at the April meeting. After seconding the motion there was much discussion, then the vote was called. The motion failed, with one yay and the rest nays.

Before the meeting was adjourned, it was decided there would be a forum in June to discuss the pros and cons of three- or five-member commissions. Valerie will be the coordinator.

Randy Neatherlin has contacted Sheriff Salisbury to speak to the NMCV at the February meeting.
