The business meeting was called to order at 7 PM by Chair Linnie Griffin, with a quorum of the Board present.

The Pledge of Allegiance was said. Afterward, everyone introduced themselves.

Secretary's Report – Lee Swoboda

Ray Stutz moved to approve the minutes of the October 24 meeting, as distributed via email. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Treasurer's Report - Jack Kimball

All bills are paid and there is $1,633.03 in the bank account.

Lee moved to approve the Treasurer's report. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Public Information Officer (PIO) Report - Ken VanBuskirk

• Attended the last Belfair Water District meeting.

• Asked Mason County commissioners to delay putting more money into the Elfendahl Pass Road. They plan to spend more to put a bridge in place of the culvert at the lower end of the road. There is already garbage being dumped alongside the road.

• County commissioner 5th Tuesday meeting in Belfair tomorrow at 6 PM. The main topic will be sewers. The county is about ready to adopt a final ordinance on December 20.

• Mason County Public Utilities Director Emmitt Dobey announced his resignation.

• Ken said this is his last meeting as Voice PIO.

Greg Waggett made a motion to suspend the bylaws and open nominations for a PIO from the membership at large. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Margie Benson nominated Randy Neatherlin. There were no other nominations and Randy was elected by acclamation.

INFORMATIONAL MEETING

GUEST SPEAKER: Steve Bloomfield, newest Mason County Commissioner, appointed to complete Jerry Lingle’s term of office.

• Jerry Lingle was his inspiration, the reason he stepped forward to serve as a county commissioner. He was selected from a group of 16 candidates.

• Was born and raised in Mason County. He and his family have been in the shellfish farming business for 50 years.

• Encouraged a lively discussion related to many topics.

• Other elected officials in the audience were Karen Herr, Casey Salisbury and Melody Peterson.

OLD BUSINESS

No NMCV meeting in December.

NEW BUSINESS/FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

• Barbara McDowell, Mason County Humane Society president, reported they are proceeding with their plan to build a shelter.

• Margie Benson announced the Sheriff Advisory meeting at 8:30 AM on December 1 at Spencer Lake. The public is invited.

• Patti Kleist, Executive Director of Faith in Action, will be the guest speaker at the January 23 meeting.

Mary Swoboda moved to suspend the Bylaws to allow all current members renewing their $10 membership for 2012 to sponsor one new member between now and the annual meeting in May. All memberships are valid through calendar year 2012. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Reminder: The North Mason Community Voice meets on the 4th Monday of the month. The next meeting is Monday, January 23, 2012.
